Map of Schooner Landing lots
Schooner Landing’s name harks back to the early days of Freeport, when magnificent sailing schooners were built in the Freeport Shipyards, on the north shore of Choctawhatchee Bay. Freeport was by far the largest community in the area, with its origins dating back to some of the earliest settlements in North America.
We have chosen the street names for the Schooner Landing neighborhood from the names of the proud sailing ships that were built in the Freeport yards.
The Schooner
To commemorate the traditions and history of the days of sail, we have created Schooner Landing to reflect the way we used to live, with neighbors greeting each other across their front porches and children able to play in safety in the front yards.
Schooner Landing is a Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) where there are no gates or walls allowing it to blend seamlessly into the surrounding areas. Garages are accessed in the rear of the homes for prettier, friendlier streetscapes.
The neighborhood features small touches that echo the nautical heritage of the area – dock like boardwalks, a model schooner at the entrance to the area and a full mast with signal flags. Halyard Park has a play area designed by kids for kids, with a lighthouse and the lookout on Hammock Hill.
Schooner Landing will take you back to everything we miss from the old days but brought right up to date with every convenience and amenity you could desire.
